Best Cycling Hotel on the Costa Blanca

We know we’re slightly biased and we do have a partnership with them, but we do think that the Hotel Cap Negret is the best cycling hotel on the Costa Blanca.
During the winter months it’s home to many of the world’s best cycling teams and cyclists and during the summer season it’s busy with holiday makers and tourists soaking up the summer sun.
So if you’re looking to spend some time riding your bike and spotting professional cyclists in the Spanish winter sun, there are few places better than the Cap Negret in Altea and here are six reasons why.
1, The Pro Rider Experience
If you visit in January or February, as soon as you enter the Hotel Cap Negret you will see professional riders. Teams such as Bahrain Victorious, Intermarche Wanty, Lotto Destiny, Laboral Kutxa, Euskatel, BH Coloma and many more call Hotel Cap Negret home.
Team cars and vehicles pack the car park and inside, the restaurant and communal areas are buzzing with conversations between professional riders, team managers and support staff and at meal times you’ll sit on the very next table to professional teams.
In the evenings it’s not uncommon to be invited to have a game of pool by a rider from another team and by the end of your stay you’re likely to be saying hello to them as you pass by and have an impressive collections of team water bottles.

2, Location
Whilst its next door neighbour Calpe may be more famous, we think that Altea is a much better location for a cycling training camp.
Calpe and Benidorm are full of high rise buildings, whilst Altea is completely the opposite. Known as the ‘Spanish Santorini’ due to its whitewashed houses and quaint hilltop village, Altea offers a blend of old and new and is less than an hour from Alicante Airport.
There are a great mix of local, Spanish oriented restaurants and bars and tourist style places too. In the old town around the Church there are some great places to find a bite to eat and in the lower town you’ll find the more traditional places where the locals go.
3, Easy access to the best routes
The hotel is located on a road on which, according to Strava is one of the busiest routes for the professional teams. If you stand outside the hotel in January or February, then you often won’t have to wait more than two minutes to see a bunch of professional riders – often followed by team cars – pass by. Whether you can keep up with them is another story and many do try, but can you do and live to tell the tale?
Hotel Cap Negret sits right on the coast and at the foot of some of Spain’s most iconic cycling routes. Within minutes of leaving the hotel, you’ll be climbing towards the legendary Col de Rates, marvelling at the incredible views of the Castell de Guadalest, or tracing the dramatic coastline beyond Calpe.

4, The Bike Zone
The Cap Negret Bike Zone is a purpose-built facility designed specifically for cyclists and is easily the best free to use hotel bike zone anywhere in Europe. It offers secure, spacious bike storage with key card access, individual racks and CCTV, as well as free to use bike tools.
You can clean your bike at the dedicated wash station and use the free of charge laundry to keep your kit clean and fresh. Whether you’re bringing your own bike or hiring, the Bike Zone provides peace of mind and convenience, allowing you to focus on riding your bike.
There’s a reason why many of the world’s best cycling teams use the Cap Negret.
5, The Food
Every meal is designed for a professional rider. Gone are the days of trying to find a shop to cook lunch in your Airbnb trying to refuel after a 60 mile and 3000m ride. The all you can eat buffet is literally packed full of carbs, proteins and the nutrients that you need and – if you want – sweet treats to reward yourself for your hard work.
Whether you’re prepping for a big ride or recovering from being beasted in the hills, the wide variety of food on offer ensures your nutritional needs are covered. Compared to staying in an Airbnb – where you’re shopping, cooking, and cleaning – Cap Negret takes the stress out of mealtimes so you can focus on your rides, your recovery, and enjoying your time on and off the bike.

6. The Wellness Zone
The wellness area at the Hotel Cap Negret is the perfect place to unwind and recover after a day in the saddle. You can soothe tired legs in the outdoor pool, relax with a massage, or simply stretch out on the peaceful sun terrace with sea views.
The hotel’s sauna and massage services are perfect for post-ride recovery. Ease muscle tension, boost circulation, and accelerate recovery with a deep-tissue sports massage or a relaxing sauna session. These on-site options help you feel refreshed, reduce fatigue, and get more from every day in the saddle.
Planning Your Costa Blanca Cycling Holiday
If you’re looking to combine a beach holiday with riding your bike, the best times to visit the Costa Blanca are Spring (March-May) and Autumn (September-November). These months offer optimal cycling conditions and blooming landscapes and the weather is plenty warm enough to sit out well into the evening outside your favourite restaurant.
But if you are looking to rub shoulders with world famous cyclists then consider December, January and February. These are the months when high profile Grand Tour teams descend on the Costa Blanca for winter training camps. You will regularly see riders such as Tom Pidcock, Woue van Aert and many, many more out on your daily rides.
Calpe, Altea, and Benidorm are popular bases, providing easy access to various routes and cycling-friendly amenities but we use the amazing Hotel Cap Negret in Altea. It’s home to many Grand Tour teams including Bahrain Victorious who have made this fantastic video of the hotel and its facilities.
